Crafty Christmas Commences - Part 1

I have said for many years that I want to try to make something for everyone on my list. This has yet to be seen... I have made things for a few people but not for everyone. This year I am starting early and hoping for the best! Wish me luck :)

However, so far I have only made things for me. Granted these are things that I have wanted for a long time....but still....Ooops!

First up:
Saturday I went to the Scott Antique Market with my Mom, Sister and my sister's friend, Mattie. It's an annual tradition for us. Scott's only comes once a month during the winter months and the weekend after Thanksgiving is sooooooo huge! It fills 2 big buildings at our State Fair grounds!

At Scott's we always find a few good deals and usually lots of great ideas! This year I found this:
This was my inspiration...for sale for $120!!!
It cost $120. DANG! I loved it but there is no way I can justify spending $120 on that.... So I decided I would make it! So it was my inspiration :)

Here's how I did it:
-Base Wreath. I used the wreath that I've had for idea when I purchased or how much it was, sorry!
-Hot glue gun and glue. Had this laying around the house. No cost.
---At Scott's I found a dealer selling bags and boxes of the same colored glass Christmas ornaments for $1 a bag/box!! I bought 6.
----Several years back I purchased a box of vintage Christmas ornaments (mostly from west Germany!) from a local auction house. Lot was $12.50.

I was thrilled with how it turned out! Could not be happier :)

Black Friday Sales!

A month or so ago I opened my Etsy shop. The night I opened it I only had one thing to post, a bib I made for my nephew.

{Handmade} Buckeye Bib

I knew I had to work at making my etsy shop more exciting. Maybe by taking better pictures... Posting more items...(even still) and so many other things... I've also learned that people post items on there and they sit for months without any interest. It's a slippery slop and you never know what you are going to sell and what you aren't.

But on the night I opened my etsy shop, by the time I woke up the next morning the bib had sold!! I was so excited. And I definitely did the happy dance!

I still have more work to do, and I have a ton more things to add to the shop. But it's coming along :)

Check out my Blue-J Cottage Etsy Shop!

And for you Black Friday shoppers out there: SAVE 15% OFF thru December 1st with the coupon code: GiveThanks

Preparing for the Feast!

Thanksgiving is tomorrow! I love Thanksgiving! Not only because i get to share it with family and friends but It's by far my favorite meal.

In preparation for the holiday, I decided to make a new oven mit.... Yes, this is a very important to-do! :-P (However, according to my husband, I am "special") Anyway... I decided to make it like I did my stocking and make it a little more feminine. So I added a ruffle! I think it turned out pretty cute :)

I will post detailed instructions later today, for now enjoy!

Five Elevens

At 11-11-11 11:11am I was teaching dance, we talked about the numbers and they were fascinated that it would be 5 elevens! So of course they had to know when it was 11:11 on the clock (even though they are only 5 and can't tell time), I told them when the little hand was on the 11 and the big had was just past the 2 that's 11:11.

At 11:11 it was like New Year's Eve! They were so excited! We closed our eyes and made a wish :) Julia wished for it to be her Birthday every day! Mia wished for class to be over now. Elena wish for it to be 11:11 all day. And Anna wouldn't tell because you aren't supposed to tell your wishes. So sweet!

It was the best way to spend my 11-11-11 11:11! :)

{Handmade} Showing my Support

I wear teal every day.

Be it, a shirt, bracelet, vest, jacket, hat, scarf whatever.

I wear teal everyday.

I wear teal in support of my Mother...
@OCAO Ovarian Cancer Walk for Hope 2011

She is an Ovarian Cancer Survivor!

She was first diagnosed back in 2006, and was clear for 4 years. She is currently under going treatment again. It is sad. It is hard. You don't know what to say. All you can do is fight. Be there for her. And show your support in every way possible. Which is what I try to do.

This time is different. She is stronger. And fighting harder. And my whole family is by her side!

I have had plans for awhile to make a scarf out of my Ovarian Cancer Walk Shirts. I finally took the time to do it. Friday night I spent the better part of the EARLY morning hours making and finishing my scarf. In the end it took about 2.5hours and was well worth it!

All the shirts are there from 2007-2011:

I will be wearing this all season to support my mom and show my support for others!

{Weekend Adventure} IKEA & The Fabric Shack

Last weekend, Paul and I decided to head off for a Saturday adventure to IKEA!! And somehow I convinced him to stop at The Fabric Shack along the way.

Walking in, I had said I don't want to be there too long....two hours later ( :-O ) I came out with a bag full of goodies! (I felt so bad, but it was fabric heaven and they were busy at the cutting tables!)

The fabric shack

Here's what I ended up with:
Goodies from the Fabric Shack!

Goodies from the Fabric Shack!

I found these little cuties...they are a super small Mini Charm Pack! How fun!
Goodies from the Fabric Shack!

I wanted to pick up some of the Alexander Henry Men fabric but couldn't find I asked. The older lady cutting my fabric had no idea what I was talking about, but the lady at the other counter did! She said they had it in the office, because they thought some people might be offended by the men. This may be the case....but I think they are hilarious!

It was a good stop, and even though I was in there for two hours I still feel like I need to go again!

IKEA was our next stop and I absolutely love that store. It is so much fun walking around and seeing their ideas in the show rooms and all the nifty items for sale. I love it! We got a few fun things. But more or less are planning for when we move/buy a home. What a great place for inspiration!

It was a really fun weekend!

Happy Sewing!

Blog App

I typically post from the Blog App on my iPhone/iPad. But recently it has been shutting down for no reason....

I am always on the go due to having 2 jobs and 1 that I go to twice a day. So using an app to post makes my chaotic life a little easier. But when it doesn't work, it makes it harder on me.

Happy Day! It's almost Friday!
